Rumblings have been felt within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) camp after the awful fall of its candidate in the Machakos Senatorial race. – By Gerald Gekara.
Wiper party candidate Agnes Kavindu who happens to be UDA Party leader Johnstone Muthama’s ex-wife, clinched the senate seat by a distant margin, amassing 92 percent of the votes cast.
UDA’s candidate took the loss with a big pinch of salt, as Wiper supporters broke into song and praise at the IEBC tallying center.
Despite extensive tours in the region, the loss undercut’s the Hustler nation narrative in Ukambani. The loss comes amid the withdrawal of Maendeleo Chapchap from the race.
However, of greater concern was the voter turn out that was a mere shadow of the booming Machakos County voting block.
Only 130,617 out of the 622,965 registered voters cast their ballots in the 1,335 polling stations.
Ms. Kavindu garnered 104,352 votes ahead of her main competitor, Urbanus Kioko who garnered 19,726 votes.
Mutua Katuku came in at a distant third, with 1,476 votes.
