Kapenguria Member of Parliament Samuel Moroto expressed regret for voting for the current government on Tuesday, claiming that his decision could hinder him from entering the Biblical heaven, and asked for forgiveness from God.
Moroto was bemoaning the government’s failure to intervene in the clashes that killed four people in his region.
According to the MP, the current regime has failed miserably in fulfilling its promises, particularly in dealing with conflicts and rampant insecurity in the North Rift regions.
“The lower part of the region, it is the govt that is triggering conflict and not any other government. It is this government. And am also a member of the UDA, and I regret why I chose it, and it may even cost me a place in heaven, I pray for forgiveness from God,” the MP complained.
According to the politician, among those killed was a student who had recently completed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
The disgruntled leader also accused Kenya Defence Forces officers stationed in the area.We were unable to independently verify MP Moroto’s claims.
“They’re using the equipment they have been given to finish off people who are innocent. I as the area MP have tried so much, including with the area elders, and the churches,” the MP, who was in the company of other leaders from the region, stated and further condemned the deaths.
In a bid to curb the clashes from escalating, the leaders called on the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination, Kithure Kindiki, and his Defence Counterpart, Aden Duale, to move with speed and restore peace in the region.
“The current government now is in place. They don’t even move close to people, they use drones to drop bombs and destroy things. The Interior CS only came here once and has never come back,” the MP said.
He also compared the current regime to that of the late President Daniel Arap Moi, which he claimed, struggled to restore sanity in the North Rift. However, he lauded President Mwai Kibaki’s reign for championing peaceful coexistence between communities in the region.
