After Jubilee Party supporters led by their candidate Kariri Njama protested over alleged manipulation in the Kiambaa by-election, chaos broke early Friday morning at Karuri High School tallying facility.
They asked for a recount and tabulation of votes in the polling stations of Kawaida, Muchatha, and Gachie.
With 153 out of 154 polling stations reporting their tallies, provisional results show UDA’s John Njuguna leading with 21,606 votes, followed by 21,151 votes.
Kiambaa Returning Officer Peter Muigai told supporters from both sides that he is waiting for the remaining polling center’s presiding officer to come and validate the form 35A, which he claimed was missing.
On July 15, 2021, Jubilee candidate Kariri Njama voted for the Kiambaa parliamentary seat at Gacii Primary School.
Richard Njoroge (New Democrat Party), Isaac Karomo (Federal Party of Kenya), Willie Mbugua (Independent), David Mugo (Independent), Evans Wainaina (Independent), and Njoroge Harrison are among the other candidates in the by-election (Independent).
With 154 polling stations in five wards, the constituency has slightly more than 96,000 registered voters.
