President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate William Kisang Kipkemoi has won the race for Elgeyo Marakwet Senator by-election.
Kisang garnered 41,378 votes against Tim Kipchumba of the Party for Peace and Democracy (PPD) who garnered 38,151 votes, followed by Jerotich Seii of Safina with 2,660 votes.
Independent candidates Mengich Andrew Kibiwott and Kemboi Kevin Kiptoo received 503 and 382 votes, respectively.
The New Democrats’ Tanui Timothy received 397 votes.
Kipchumba and Seii conceded defeat earlier on and promised support to Kisang in his position.
“A few minutes to midnight yesterday, I called Kisang and congratulated him. I assured him of my support as my Senator and the Senator-elect of Elgeyo Marakwet. Kait Sait for us to support him and our Kenya Kwanza government under President Ruto,” Kipchumba said.
“Congratulations to Senator-elect Honourable William Kisang of Elgeyo Marakwet County and also to Tim Kipchumba for being a formidable opponent. Godspeed,” Seii tweeted.
Kisang will succeed Kipchumba Murkomen, who was appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport.
