UEFA Scraps Controversial Champions League Proposal

UEFA has scrapped their contentious Champions League qualification proposals but has announced a new plan that may still benefit Premier League clubs.

The governing body of European football appeared to be on the verge of implementing new plans to reward two teams with Champions League spots based on their 10-year coefficient.

There were also proposals to expand the group stage to ten matches from the current six.

The plans were met with skepticism across Europe, with many supporters seeing it as a repeat of the failed European Super League last year, which aimed to help Europe’s biggest clubs secure seats at the top table.

On Monday, the European Clubs Association met in Madrid to discuss the expansion proposals.
