The United Green Movement Party (UGM), led by former Chief Justice David Maraga, has launched a call targeting young political aspirants who wish to contest in the 2027 General Election.
in a statement on Tuesday, November 4, the party said it is opening its doors to ambitious youth across all 47 counties who want to contest in the upcoming polls.
“The United Green Movement Party (UGM), to advance the David Maraga Presidential Campaign, is inviting interested young aspirants, for the following positions in the 2027 General Elections: Governor, Parliament [Senator, Women Rep., Member of National Assembly] and County Assembies, from all 47 counties to register and take part in an in-person session to develop a National Campaign Accountability Charter that will guide the team campaigns for the 2027 General Election,” the statement read.
UGM urged all interested youth to take advantage of the opportunity by registering online before the deadline set for November 11, 2025.
“Click and fill the forms in both links to register; https://polls.davidmaraga.info and https://www.ugmparty.co.ke/call-for-young-aspirants/. Deadline is November 11, 2025,” the statement added.
This comes weeks after Maraga criticized President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of undermining constitutional freedoms and losing legitimacy to govern Kenya.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 21, he noted that the timing and content of eight Bills recently signed into law demonstrated the government’s contempt for democratic principles and the will of the people.
“At exactly the same time that the nation was grappling with the news of the demise of Raila Odinga, President Ruto was in the State House signing into law not one but eight bills, some of which are quite draconian,” he said.
Maraga argued that the President’s actions showed a fundamental disregard for the Constitution he swore to uphold.
“President Ruto has lost the legitimacy to continue to lead our beloved country. A president who does not have any regard for the constitution under which he governs has no legitimacy to continue governing this country,” he added.
Maraga further criticized the administration’s contradictory messaging about national development while simultaneously dismantling the foundations of democratic governance.
“You speak of moving Kenya from third world to first world, yet you destroy its very foundations of sovereignty,” he further said.
