Uhuru Did Not Campaign For Me – Raila

Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party, has refuted claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta betrayed him in the August 2022 elections.

This comes amid a slew of charges that Kenyatta rigged the elections in order to deprive Mr. Odinga the chance to run the country.

“Uhuru was not supposed to be campaigning for me. I am a politician in my own right and I am capable of campaigning and winning elections and Uhuru knows it.”

Mr. Odinga indicated on Citizen TV that he did not expect a shot in the arm from the former President, saying that he is and has always been capable of contesting an election on his own without the assistance of anyone.

“Uhuru chose to support me because of my track record, but he was not the one who was going to campaign for me. He did not move around campaigning for me. He basically stood on his duties and did not use his position as the incumbent president to swing the results in my favor.”

Kenyatta backed Mr. Odinga over his then-deputy William Ruto, saying the Azimio stalwart “meant good for the country,”.

Raila Odinga offering to name Kenyatta as his political advisor if he won the presidency.
