Uhuru Kenyatta on Retirement: “Life is Good, No Responsibilities”

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has spoken candidly about his retirement, stating that he is enjoying life away from leadership responsibilities.

Speaking during a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Meru County on Sunday, the former Head of State described retirement as a blessing, especially when one steps down while still strong.

“Maisha ya retirement ni mazuri sana, hauna responsibilities, unaangalia wale wengine kwa TV … Walikuwa wanafikiria ukubwa ndio kazi, wengine naona wanajionea tayari,” Uhuru said, loosely translating to:

“Retirement life is good. No responsibilities, you just watch others on TV. They thought being in power was easy, but now they are experiencing it firsthand.”

The mass was held to celebrate the installation of Bishop Jackson Murugara as the Coadjutor Bishop of Meru, a role appointed by the Vatican.

Uhuru congratulated the new Bishop, urging the church to continue guiding the nation.

“We must save souls, but if you have no lives, you will have lost those souls. The church has a responsibility to ensure our nation stays on the right path,” he said.

He was accompanied by former Agriculture CS Peter Munya, ex-Meru Woman Rep Florence Kajuju, and former DCI boss George Kinoti.

The event drew large congregations in honor of Bishop Murugara, who previously served as the rector of the Consolata Shrine in Nairobi before his Vatican appointment.
