Uhuru Secondary School in Nairobi was closed indefinitely on Monday following the death of a student under mysterious circumstances.
Police are also looking into the cause of a fire that broke out at the school on Sunday night, destroying two dormitories.
The student was not affected by the fire, according to police, and the cause of death has yet to be determined.
According to witnesses and police, the student came from the field after a basketball game and told his friends he wasn’t feeling well.
He fell asleep but awoke before being taken to the school checkpoint.
Because there was no attendant, the administration was forced to transport him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The death is being investigated, according to Buruburu OCPD Francis Ngugi Kamau.
“The student had returned from basketball around 5 p.m. and told his fellow student in the hall that he was not feeling well before the incident,” he explained.
He also stated that an autopsy would be performed on the body to determine the cause of death.
The death and fire at the school compelled the institution to close while investigations were conducted.
