The Kenya Defence Forces will hold a farewell ceremony this morning for outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces.
The two-part event will be the second last of President Kenyatta’s constitutional mandates before his term ends on Tuesday, when he will hand over power to Dr. William Ruto.
The departing president will inspect his final guard of honour, which will be mounted by soldiers dressed in ceremonial red tunics.
KDF Spokesperson Colonel Esther Wanjiku said in a statement that the event, which will be held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Langata, Nairobi County, is in keeping with military traditions.
“The event is in line with the military traditions and custom to hold a farewell ceremony for the Commander in Chief of Defence Forces,” she said.
Colonel Wanjiku stated that the event would thereafter proceed for the Pulling Out of the outgoing Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces in the afternoon at the Defense Headquarters (DHQ) Hurlingham, Nairobi.
During the event, the military officers will pay tribute to President Kenyatta, who has been their leader for the past ten years.
