President Uhuru Kenyatta will embark on a series of development tours in Mt Kenya to explain why the region should support Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
However, Raila will not accompany the president on his upcoming tour, which will begin in Nyeri County.
Uhuru will take advantage of the opportunity to persuade his people to vote in the same manner as in the past.
Kanini Kega, Jubilee director of elections and Kieni MP, said yesterday that the president will open Mwai Kibaki Hospital, which changed its name from Kenyatta National Hospital Othaya Annex after the death of the third president.
He will also launch the Sh350 million Narumoru level Four Hospital, which has a capacity of 170 beds, before visiting Chaka market, which has been renovated at a cost of Sh1 billion.
The president issued orders barring government officials from launching or commissioning the projects, as part of a strategy to de-horn Deputy President William Ruto, who had made numerous trips to the region to lay the groundwork.
Following the launch of the projects, the president will commission the Karicheni apparel center project, which will tailor military and police uniforms and employ over 5,000 youth.
He will pay a visit to Kimathi University and lay the groundwork for the Sh3 billion Cancer Centre.
“The president will also use the opportunity to thank Mt Kenya residents for voting him for ten years and bid us goodbye. We are privileged that his goodbye is by way of launching and commissioning development projects,” Mr Kega said.
He added that Uhuru will also list the development projects launched in Mt Kenya since his election as president. This will be the president’s second time camping in his backyard to try to get his house in order.
