Uhuru Steps In To Solve Tigray Crisis

Kenya has urged for an end to hostilities between Ethiopia’s warring groups to allow for a national dialogue.

President Uhuru Kenyatta called for a “Olympic Truce” in a statement released on Wednesday, barely a day after UN Secretary General António Guterres called for an all-inclusive national debate and decisive efforts to allow efficient humanitarian access and relief.

“As President of the Republic of Kenya and friend of the brotherly people of Ethiopia, I join the Secretary General of the United Nations, H.E. António GUTERRES, in appealing to all parties to cease hostilities in the ongoing conflict in our neighbouring country of Ethiopia,” President Kenyatta said in a statement.

After regional forces in Tigray attacked a security installation of Ethiopia’s national defense force and disputed the government’s legitimacy to rule, the war in Ethiopia began in November 2020.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed retaliated by launching a military attack that resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, with both sides accused of violating human rights.
