Ukraine has destroyed a strategically vital bridge over the Seym River near the town of Glushkovo in Russia’s Kursk region, marking a significant escalation in its cross-border incursion.
The bridge, crucial for Russian troop supplies, has been cut off, disrupting Moscow’s military operations in the area.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian forces are solidifying their positions in Kursk, suggesting that captured territories might serve as bargaining chips in future negotiations with Moscow.
Mykhailo Podolyak, a senior aide to Zelensky, stated that the operation aims to force Russia into negotiations on Kyiv’s terms, not to occupy Russian land.
The incursion, now in its second week, has prompted over 120,000 people to flee, making it Ukraine’s deepest penetration into Russian territory since the war began.
Despite these gains, Kyiv maintains it has no interest in permanent occupation.
Meanwhile, Russian forces are advancing in eastern Ukraine, capturing Serhiivka and inching closer to the strategic city of Pokrovsk.
As both sides make gains, the conflict’s intensity continues to escalate, with heavy fighting and civilian evacuations reported on both sides of the border.
