Ukrainian Drone Attack Kills One, Injures Others at Southern Russia Port

A Ukrainian drone attack on a ferry at Port Kavkaz in southern Russia has killed one person and wounded several others, according to Krasnodar governor Veniamin Kondratyev.

The incident caused a fire on the ferry, but Kondratyev assured there was no risk of it spreading.

“Unfortunately, there are injured and dead among the crew and port staff,” Kondratyev said, adding that emergency services were on the scene.

The port is located a few kilometers from the Kerch Bridge, which connects Russia to the Crimean Peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014.

This area has been a frequent target since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Ukrainian forces previously attacked the same region in late May, hitting an oil terminal near Port Kavkaz.

Additionally, the Russian Black Sea Fleet, based in Crimea, has faced significant damage, with many warships relocated to other ports. Ukraine’s navy recently claimed success in forcing these relocations.

In a separate overnight development, Ukraine’s air defenses intercepted seven Shahed-type attack drones and a cruise missile launched by Russia.

However, one Russian drone struck critical infrastructure in the Sumy Region, cutting power to 50,000 consumers.

The previous night, Kharkiv’s military administration reported that a Russian attack damaged an educational institute in Derhachi, north of Kharkiv city.

Russia’s defense ministry claimed, without evidence, that about 50 foreign “instructors and mercenaries” were killed in the strike.

Meanwhile, Russian forces reported downing 25 Ukrainian drones in western Russia and over Crimea, following a claim the previous night of intercepting over 85 Ukrainian drones.
