UKRANIAN DRONES TARGET MOSCOW AHEAD OF VICTORY DAY PARADE.

Russian tanks drive along a Moscow street on the day of a rehearsal for a military parade marking the 80th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany, on May 3, 2025.

Moscow came under a drone attack for the second consecutive night as Ukranian forces launched a wave of strikes ahead of Russia’s Victory Day celebrations. At least 19 drones were intercepted near the capital overnight, according to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.

While no serious injuries or damage were reported, debris from the downed drones landed on a major highway prompting the temporary suspension of flights at four major airports. Russia’s defense ministry said a total of 105 Ukranian drones were intercepted across the country during the night .

The attack comes just before the anticipated arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping, who will join Russian President Vladimir Putin and other world leaders, including those from Brazil, Vietnam and Belarus, for Friday’s May 9th Victory Day parade.

Victory Day, which commemorates the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, holds deep symbolic importance in Russia, which is often used by Putin to showcase national unity and military strength.
