Dr. Ida Odinga, wife to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, will lead well wishers state officers and other Kenyans in securing the future of school girls, to contribute in setting up an ultra-modern library facility in Homabay County. – By Gerald Gekara
The Dr. Ida Odinga Library, Research, Innovation and Resource Center will be constructed in Ogande Girls’ High School, where Dr. Ida studied in.
The project was launched in 13th of August 2020, and was graced by Sports Cabinet Secretary Amb. Dr. Amina Mohamed, C.A.S Momina, Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, Amb. Yvonne Khamati, Hon.Kaluma, Hon. Anthony Oluoch, Alan Oluoch, Charles Mulila, Ogande school Principal and Alumni.
According to Dr. Ida, the fundraiser will seek to raise about 350 Million to facilitate the construction works, and installation of key digital libraries, film complexes and creative spaces for the community.
Once complete, the project will be a regional hub for performing arts, Film; Studio and Cinema Mashinani initiatives.
Through its proximity to colleges and universities including Tom Mboya and Rongo, the facilities will be key for innovation and research projects aimed at developing solutions to Kenya’s challenges.
While speaking on the importance of the initiative, C.S Amina Mohammed applauded Dr. Ida, for taking up the role of uplifting the girl child.
“This initiative is a confirmation of Mama Ida’s commitment to education and her support for the youth of this country, especially the girl child. It confirms that indeed from humble background, one can become a towering figure.” said C.S Amina.
