With only a month and days away from the General Election, aspirants are busy crisscrossing their region in search of votes.
In Lamu County, the first Lamu female gubernatorial candidate Umra Omar launched major campaign machinery traversing all corners of the vast county to garner support for her election bid on August 9.
In the company of her Deputy Julius Ndegwa, they took their campaigns to Lamu East in a convoy of vehicles from Mokowe Hindi Kibaoni Majembeni Baharini before making a major entrance in Mpeketoni Town with hundreds of. Supporters.

She said her administration will also invest in Universal health care to ensure all residents including those minorities have access to proper health care.
Omar said she will address all the issues of health which is the main pillar of her campaign when elected as governor.

She asked residents of Lamu not to be taken for a ride by candidates who are out to enrich themselves once they are elected to office.
“We want employment in Lamu county but without industries that will not be possible there is a port which is being launched soon and goods will be offloaded and loaded if you won’t vote wisely on August 9 all the jobs will be lost,” she said.
Omar said Lamu needs industries to tap into the available resources such as cotton, Bexar tomatoes, Mangoes, and Watermelon that are rotting.
Currently, she said big ships have begun docking in Lamu from many outside countries which are able to create many opportunities with proper leadership.
“Lamu is a very rich county and we want the rich to be the locals themselves,” said the governor hopeful.
She said her administration will end discrimination of religion, culture, and ethnic differences so as to be one people as opposed to the notion that some people are from Lamu East and others are from Lamu west.
On Security, she said locals have been used to fight themselves and cautioned them against being used by politicians to fight.
She said in July title deeds will be distributed to act as bait for the locals to vote for certain politicians but called on the people to reject such kinds of leaders.
“In August when the title deeds are distributed, take them but do not accept to be taken for a ride make a wise decision, the last-minute bait is going to lead you to problems,” she said.
Omar said there has to be transparency in leadership and both women and men must be given equal opportunities together with youth and women.
“If you go to the ballot I urge you if you see men only on the governor forget about it, if you see a leader from Lamu |east only forget it we want a leader from Lamu East and Lamu West,” she said.
Umra will be battling with three other governor hopefuls including the incumbent Fahim Twaha, Former Lamu Governor Issa Timammy and former Deputy Governor Eric Mugo.
