The UN refugee agency has asked the UK government to avoid pairing Ukrainian women and children with single males as hosts.
There are fears that refugees will be exploited if they are connected with an unsuitable host through the Homes for Ukraine sponsorship initiative.
When it comes to linking sponsors with refugees, the UNHCR has advocated for “a more acceptable method.”
According to the administration, “extensive security and background checks” were carried out.
The Homes for Ukraine program began on March 18, but it has been chastised for being extremely bureaucratic and tardy in issuing visas.
Anyone in the UK can apply to be a host under the system if they can provide housing for a refugee for at least six months.
