The United Nations Security Council is holding an emergency meeting today to discuss growing concerns over alleged Russian airspace violations in Estonia and other areas bordering NATO member states.
According to reports, multiple incursions by Russian military aircraft have been detected in recent days, sparking alarm among Baltic and Eastern European nations. Estonia has formally lodged a complaint, accusing Moscow of repeated provocations that threaten regional security.
Neighbouring countries have warned that the actions risk escalating tensions between Russia and NATO, raising fears of miscalculation that could lead to a broader confrontation. Diplomats say the Security Council will seek to de-escalate the situation and reaffirm commitments to international airspace norms.
Russia has not publicly commented on the latest allegations, though it has previously denied intentional violations, often attributing such incidents to navigational errors or routine military exercises.
The meeting comes amid heightened geopolitical friction, with NATO increasing surveillance flights and readiness measures in Eastern Europe to deter further provocations.
