Secretary-General António Guterres has named Ms. Gladys Mugambi, the temporary head of the Directorate of Health Promotion and Education in the Kenyan Ministry of Health, as an Ex-Officio Member to oversee initiatives to address malnutrition.
The nomination of Ms. Mugambi is a calculated decision to strengthen the battle against malnutrition and address the issues related to food and nutrition security.
She is qualified to lead efforts to fight hunger and advance health education both in Kenya and around the world thanks to her significant experience in health promotion and education.
Ms. Mugambi’s appointment is a result of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement, a worldwide effort aimed at eliminating malnutrition in all of its forms. The SUN Movement promotes cooperation, gives national nutrition plans first priority, and makes sure that families, women, and children can access a variety of healthy, sustainable diets.
Kenya is committed to meeting the nutritional needs of its population and advancing the movement’s overarching goals, as evidenced by Ms. Mugambi’s membership in the SUN Movement Lead Group. She is a great asset in the fight against malnutrition due to her knowledge and commitment to tackling the nutritional issues that communities face.
Additionally chosen to serve as a member of the SUN Movement Lead Group and representing Kenya is Dr. Githinji Gitahi, CEO of AMREF Health Africa. This increases the nation’s commitment to treating malnutrition and improves its standing in the worldwide struggle against this important issue.
The nomination of Ms. Mugambi underscores the commitment of the Kenyan government to meeting the nutritional needs of its people. The Ministry of Health now plays a critical role in the fight against malnutrition. She will work to eradicate malnutrition and all of its negative effects on people and communities alongside other newly selected officials.
The Ministry of Health and the SUN Movement are prepared to achieve tremendous advancements in preventing malnutrition and fostering food and nutrition security as Ms. Mugambi assumes her new role. They seek to build a future where everyone is healthier and better fed by group efforts and deliberate acts.
