The University of Nairobi (UoN) on Tuesday launched its 8th Annual Research and Innovation Week alongside the Nairobi Innovation Week 2025, bringing together researchers, policymakers, students, and industry leaders to showcase advancements in science, technology, and innovation.
The four-day event, held at the Chandaria Auditorium, is themed “Advancing Research and Innovation from Discovery to Impact in a Dynamic Global Landscape.” It aims to strengthen the link between academic research and practical solutions addressing global and local challenges.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, leaders from the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI), the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA), and the National Research Fund (NRF) emphasized the need to bridge gaps in intellectual property protection, research commercialization, and technology transfer. They noted that these areas remain key barriers to translating innovation into real-world impact.
The officials also highlighted the importance of tackling climate change, technological disruption, and economic transformation through collaborative research and youth-driven innovation.
A notable highlight of this year’s edition is a new partnership between UoN and Mazao Group, aimed at developing agricultural technologies and solutions to enhance food security and sustainability.
Throughout the week, participants will engage in exhibitions, keynote sessions, and interactive workshops, all focused on driving innovation that contributes to Kenya’s and Africa’s socio-economic growth.
