BY PRUDENCE WANZA- A crisis is looming at the University of Nairobi as Prof. Stephen Kiama defies CS Magoha who revoked his appointment as the University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor.

Prof. Kiama has placed an advertisement in the Daily Nation saying he was legally in office and he will continue discharging his duties.

He has urged the public to ignore orders from Professor Magoha. Incidentally, he is a former Chancellor of the University.

The Revocation of Prof. Stephen Kiama as VC by Education CS Prof. George Magoha has caused uproar in the University of Nairobi leadership.

The university’s Students Council is now calling upon the government to expedite the process of appointing a new VC.

The Student leaders have also maintained that they support the action taken by the CS adding that they fully support Prof. Isaac Mbeche.

CS Magoha named Prof.  Mbeche to act in the position of VC pending the appointment of a substantive one.

The CS is also said to have written to the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission seeking to have investigations conducted on the process carried out by Public Service Commission (PSC), on December 18 last year.

In the letter Magoha cited that, the ministry noted some ethical and integrity issues that could taint the process and thus ruin the reputation of the University.

“I kindly invite you to audit and interrogate the process as to its integrity, transparency, merit and ethos thereof, to enable the government make critical and decisive decisions to avoid besmirching the reputation of the university,” said Magoha.
