US Adds New Names To Global Terrorist List

The State Department said on Friday that five accused Islamist militants have been added to its Specially Designated Global Terrorist list.

Individuals or foreign financial institutions who engage in specific transactions with the five might face US penalties as a result of the designations.

Bonomade Machude Omar, the senior military commander of Islamic State’s unit in Mozambique, is among them, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

According to Blinken, Omar commanded a group of radicals who killed scores of people in an attack on the Amarula Hotel in Palma in March.

He also is responsible for attacks elsewhere in Mozambique and in Tanzania, Blinken said.

Sidan Hitta and Salem Ould al-Hasan, senior leaders of Mali-based al-Qaida-linked Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin, also were designated.

Ali Mohamed Rage and Abdikadir Mohamed Abdikadir, leaders of the al-Shabab group of Somalia were added to the list.
