US Warns Israel: Boost Humanitarian Aid in Gaza or Face Potential Military Aid Cuts

Written By Lisa Murimi

The U.S. has issued a strong warning to Israel, urging immediate action to improve humanitarian aid access in Gaza or risk cuts to U.S. military assistance.

In a letter sent on Sunday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed deep concerns over the worsening humanitarian situation, pointing out that Israel blocked nearly 90% of aid movements in Gaza last month.

The U.S. called on Israel to implement measures within 30 days, including allowing 350 aid trucks daily and lifting the blockade on northern Gaza.

The letter warned that failure to comply could affect U.S. policy, as laws prohibit military aid to nations obstructing humanitarian assistance.

Israel, currently conducting a military campaign in Gaza, stated it is reviewing the letter and will address the concerns with U.S. officials.

Meanwhile, Israel has allowed a limited number of aid trucks into Gaza, though humanitarian agencies report dire conditions, with hundreds of thousands of civilians struggling for survival.

The U.S. has been Israel’s largest military supporter, providing critical weapons in its ongoing conflict with Hamas.

However, this letter marks the strongest written statement urging Israel to prioritize humanitarian aid amid the conflict.
