A man has been sentenced to three years in prison after being caught vandalizing road signs along the Mau Summit–Nyahururu Interchange (A8) Road, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has confirmed.
The arrest, made possible through public vigilance, was coordinated by KeNHA’s ALEHU-SRT unit working with the Salgaa base.
The suspect was apprehended while damaging signs on the busy stretch between Sobea and Westlands. He was swiftly prosecuted and handed a custodial sentence with no option of a fine.
KeNHA hailed the incident as a demonstration of how community vigilance can safeguard public infrastructure.
“We urge all Kenyans to protect road furniture and report any acts of vandalism,” the Authority said in a statement, warning that destruction of highway property not only endangers road users but also drains public resources through costly repairs.
Road sign vandalism has long been a menace on Kenyan highways, undermining road safety by depriving drivers of critical information. Authorities say the jail term should serve as a deterrent to would-be offenders.
Members of the public are encouraged to report vandalism to the nearest police station, any KeNHA office, or via the Authority’s toll-free hotline at 0800211244.
