A gruesome scene unfolded Monday morning at Evojo Primary School in Sabatia Sub-county, Vihiga County, after a dismembered body of an unidentified individual was found inside a pit latrine.
The chilling discovery was made by a pupil who had been assigned to clean the latrine. Upon noticing body parts lodged in the toilet, the terrified student alerted the school administration, prompting an emergency response from police and the county disaster team.
Authorities swiftly cordoned off the area to secure the scene and preserve evidence. As of Monday afternoon, efforts were still underway to retrieve the body from the latrine using an excavator.
“A student was washing the latrine in the morning when he saw it. The identity of the victim is not yet known.”
The school immediately suspended learning for the day and sent pupils home as investigations began. The incident has left parents, teachers, and students in shock.
“This is horrifying. Our children use that facility daily. How could such a thing happen here?” said Hanningtone Kidaha, a concerned parent. He criticized the school’s lack of security and fencing, pointing to it as a factor that could have enabled the crime.
Local police are urging anyone with information that could help identify the victim or perpetrators to come forward. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, though authorities believe the body was dumped at the school after the murder occurred elsewhere.
“This is an active crime scene,” a police spokesperson said. “We will be conducting forensic analysis to determine what happened and who is responsible.”
