A 32-year-old man has pleaded guilty to vandalizing a motor vehicle parked at Villa Police Station in Embakasi, Nairobi, in order to steal car batteries.
On September 22, Samson Shampasina Nina was charged with stealing two car batteries worth Sh31,000 from a company’s truck.
He entered a guilty plea before Makadara Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti.
A police officer discovered Nina under the lorry around 7 p.m.
The officer noticed someone under the truck and went to find Mr Nina, who had removed the two batteries.
Mr Nina attempted to flee, but the officer grabbed him before he could.
During interrogation, Mr Nina told the police that he had stolen the batteries to sell to a used car parts dealer on Jogoo Road, who had bought seven other batteries from him.
He told the police that he had stolen another 16 batteries, which he sold to two dealers. The accused said he had sold five others to a dealer in the Pipeline area of Embakasi and four others to an official of a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Sacco in the area.
The case will be heard on 3 October
