Kitui Youth Recieve Sanitary Towels From Philanthropic Medic

Dozens of students in Kitui County are set to benefit from a sanitary towel donation by the Vincent Munywoki Foundation.

Dr. Vincent Munywoki made the donation during the Kabati Catholic Parish Youth Conference at St. Paul Catholic Church in Kalindi.

According to Dr. Munywoki, the goal is to eliminate period poverty, which has caused so many girls to drop out of school.

Munywoki claims that the foundation has visited tens of Day and Mixed Secondary Schools, as well as tertiary training facilities, to address period shame.

According to data from Kenya’s Ministry of Education, a girl who misses four days of school in a month can miss up to six weeks of learning time in an academic year.

Vincent Munywoki Foundation is working with stakeholders including the Ministry of Health and other partners in government, civil society, and the youth to reach women and girls with menstrual health supplies and information on menstruation and related human rights concerns.

Period shame can cause feelings of isolation, low self-esteem, and interfere with daily activities.

Period shame can lead to poor menstrual hygiene, increased infection risk, reproductive health issues, and other complications.

It can also limit young girls’ educational opportunities, leading to absenteeism and dropouts.

Women may face difficulties performing their duties effectively in workplaces where menstruation is stigmatized or not properly accommodated.

We can create a world where menstruation is celebrated rather than stigmatized by challenging societal norms, promoting education, ensuring access to menstrual products, and advocating for policy changes.
