The Pastoralists Parliamentary Group has requested for the equalization grant to be released sooner to help Northern Kenya cope with drought and insecurity.
The patron of the organization is Garissa Township MP Duale, the Chairperson is Samburu North MP Alois Lentoimanga, and the Secretary-General is Isiolo County MP Rehema Jaldesa.
“The national government has a constitutional responsibility to provide timely service to its citizens, which includes the pastoralists of Northern Kenya, and it should do so immediately to avert the looming crisis rather than pursuing a political agenda that adds no value to the pastoralists’ well-being.”
A group of officials from Northeastern Kenya and other ASAL districts led by CS Ukur Yatani announced the foundation of a new movement to champion the region’s political interests.
The PPG encouraged Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to work for the people rather than play politics.
They stated, “Our brother Ukur, as Minister in Charge of Finance, must deliver to his people and not play politics.”
According to the CS, the grassroots-oriented Upya Movement will save the region from the political quagmire and propel it to the negotiating table where political and development issues will be discussed.
