Voi Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate has sentenced three men convicted of trafficking wildlife trophies.
Hon. Sinkiyian Tobiko, SRM, Voi law courts sentenced Victor Nyange, Josephat Malasi, and Gregory Mwawasi to ten years, seven years, and seven years in prison, respectively.
The three were found guilty of dealing with wildlife trophies in violation of Section 92(2) of the Wildlife Conservation & Management Act 2013.
They were apprehended while trafficking two cheetah skins measuring 1.73 and 1.72 meters, respectively.
According to the Court, the prosecution, led by Ms. Lilian Moke, demonstrated beyond a reasonable doubt that they all committed an offense.
“Upon perusing the evidence tabled in court by the prosecution and the corroboration of statements from the prosecution witnesses, this court is persuaded that the accused persons are guilty of the offence and i will therefore proceed to sentence them accordingly.” ruled the magistrate.
The fight against illegal poaching has been in Kenyan history since the inception of the Wildlife Protection Act.
Judiciary with aid of other security agencies has been at the forefront spearheading the protection of vulnerable wild.
