Police in Voi, Taita Taveta County, detained a suspected drug trafficker on Wednesday after intercepting 318 kilograms of bhang with an estimated street value of Ksh.9.8 million.
Following a tip from a member of the public, police found the illegal drugs hidden inside a Land Cruiser Prado TX with fake license plates in the Ikanga area.
Taita Taveta County Police Commander William Sadiq confirmed the incident, stating that the Mombasa-bound vehicle was carrying 11, 90-kilogram sacks and 968 rolls of bhang, totaling 318 kilograms.
The suspect, the vehicle’s sole occupant, was apprehended and is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday.
