The voluntary surrender of illegal firearms in Elgeyo Marakwet County continues to gain traction, with security authorities reporting significant public cooperation.
On November 13, 2025, a resident of Embolot Location handed over an AK-47 rifle, loaded with three rounds of ammunition, at the Embobut Police Station. This latest surrender adds to a growing tally of illegal weapons being removed from circulation.
So far, a total of 310 illegal firearms, 2,202 rounds of ammunition, and one fragmentation rifle grenade have been voluntarily handed over in the county, underscoring the public’s commitment to supporting peace and security.
Security agencies have applauded the community’s cooperation and urged residents to continue surrendering any remaining illegal arms to help bolster stability in the region. Officials stress that the ongoing disarmament exercise is crucial for preventing violence and promoting safety in Elgeyo Marakwet and neighbouring areas.
The initiative forms part of Kenya’s broader effort to combat the proliferation of illegal firearms and enhance public safety through collaborative community engagement.
