Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has finally broken her silence on the critical Kiambaa win by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Waiguru said the loss by Jubilee was a wake-up call that the party is quickly becoming unpopular among Kenyans.
“For Jubilee, it is that its core supporters are unhappy and urgent action is needed to forestall further downwards slide.”
Her sentiments echoe that of Laikipia Women rep Cate Waruguru, who promised to make a big announcement on her membership to the party.
Waiguru however, cautioned that the UDA win would be the last in central Kenya.
“This is probably the best they will do in Central Kenya. That should worry DP Ruto who needs 101% of Mt Kenya support if his candidacy is to convert to the State House. But it is still a year before the 2022 elections which in politics is a lifetime.” she added.
UDA candidate John Njuguna Wanjiku won the Kiambaa by-elections, making him the first legislator under the UDA party since it was rebranded.
He won the hotly contested vote by mere 27 votes, making it among the tightest elections in recent times.
