Agano’s Presidentential Candidate Waihiga Mwaure Asks For More Security

We are seeing our competitors with a lot of security, police cars escort cars and sirens

David Mwaure Waihiga, presidential candidate of the Agano Party, has written to Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, requesting more security personnel during his campaigns.

In the letter dated Monday, June 20 and addressed to Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, Waihiga made it clear that he demands police cars as well as escort cars to be accorded to him and his running mate Ruth Mucheru.

The duo questioned why other candidates had security, police cars, escort cars, and helicopters and if tax payer’s money was being used to fund the security provided.

“We are seeing our competitors with a lot of security, police cars escort cars and sirens and ad infinitum. Are these provided in law and regulations? If so, can we have them but not with the bravado we see with our competitors?

“If they are not provided in law, are these taxpayers’ funds being used? Was it approved by Parliament? Does Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and other government agencies know about these (helicopters, snipers, etc),” he questioned.

However, Mwaure and Mucheru said this lack of full security provision will not hinder their plan to fight corruption.

“Our presidential candidate does not plan to relent on this main agenda; fight and eradicate corruption. He needs very critical and enhanced security,” the letter reads.

The new revelations come just after the State announced that from June 8, each presidential candidates got at least ten armed police officers to ensure their safety ahead of the August polls.

Two of these officers will man their city and rural homes with their running mates on a 24-hour basis, divided into two shifts.

Then, whenever the candidates and their running mates are in campaigns, a team of at least five officers will follow them.

The team will be headed by an officer of the rank of an inspector, who will be required to always liaise with commanders of any place they will be visiting for ease of security.
