Waita Lauds Stellar KCPE Performance

CCU Party Leader and aspiring governor of Machakos County, Nzioka Waita, has offered his congratulations to all the pupils, teachers, and parents of Machakos County Primary schools.

Waita said, “I am proud of you all our students and teachers for a sterling job. Well done. To our parents, please embrace your loved one for successfully writing their exams and receiving their well-deserved grades.

However, Waita has warned that education standards in Machakos are heading in the wrong direction, with the current KCSE to university transition at just 13%, well below the national average of 19%.

“A good start to the education of all our children is so important and our primary schools are the foundation for this, but what we want to see now is a 100 per cent transition to secondary schools. Nothing less.

“However, a 13% KCSE to University transition rate is an unacceptable scandal and a clear indication of serious problems. A low transition rate denies Machakos parents and their children the opportunities they deserve. We promise to reverse this trend with several measures.

“As your next Governor, I will put in place cognitive measures to ensure children at all levels of evaluation, KCPE and KCSE, are properly introduced to the examination process and guided in their management of it. My aim is to ease the stress and anxiety of the process and the pressure on results, and in the process, I hope to eradicate cheating. We will set up county-based teams to provide counseling to manage emotional expectations associated with national examinations so that children move seamlessly to the next level.

“Additionally, in benchmarking Machakos with the best educational systems in the world, we will create a County Government Scholarship Scheme for the best five students in KCPE and KCSE.”

Waita has assured the teacher’s unions (KNUT, KUPPET, and their Machakos-based affiliates) that under his government shall make an unprecedented investment in education to lift standards across the entire county.
