Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been impeached from his office.
In a gazette notice published on 29th January, the governor was ousted after the Senate approved the impeachment motion presented in their chambers.
With38 members present, the senate quoted the grounds on which Governor Waititu was impeached, which were;
In the Gross violation of the constitution, 27 senators voted to remove the governor while 12 voted against.
In Violating national laws, 28 senators voted for his ouster while 11 opposed, with the same pattern being repeated on gross misconduct.
Kiambu Governor is the second governor to be impeached, out of all four impeachment motions brought before the Senate.
Dr. James Nyoro, the deputy governor is expected to be sworn in later today, as the new Kiambu County governor.
High Court Judge John Onyiego will preside over the swearing-in ceremony.
