The closure of the Waiyaki Way to Forest Road ramp has been prolonged by the Kenya National Highways Authority until Monday, September 20, 2021.
According to the statement, the extension would make way for the Nairobi Expressway, which is currently being built along Waiyaki Way.
Last month, a multi-agency team was formed to oversee traffic management measures on Mombasa Road parts that were under construction.
The intervention, according to KENHA, will entail guaranteeing appropriate and well-signposted lanes, timely action in the event of an accident, and well-defined U-turn spots.
The Nairobi Expressway runs from Mlolongo to James Gichuru in Westlands, connecting Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the CBD.
To avoid creating dust, motorists are advised to avoid driving on the construction site and instead take the designated detour.
On September 30, the Westlands-James Gichuru segment will open, followed by the Haile Selassie-UoN Roundabout, which is expected to open on October 15.
Because the number of lanes on both sides of traffic has been drastically reduced since the construction of the 27.1-kilometer road, motorists have been encountering stifling jams on the route.
