Wajir Chief Jailed For 40 Years For Raping 18-Year-Old Girl

A Chief in Wajir County was sentenced to 40 years in prison for raping an 18-year-old girl many times and posting her naked photographs on social media. 

Chief Kalimoi Shale, the accused, was also fined Ksh.500,000, which he is obliged to give to the victim as reparation. 

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), after performing the terrible deeds, the chief pushed the girl to agree to an out-of-court settlement.

“Chief Kalimoi Shale of Wajir was found guilty of raping an 18-year-old girl on multiple occasions and using his position to force her to accept an out-of-court settlement through Maslaha, a cultural conflict resolution model common in North Eastern Kenya,” read the stated the ODPP.

“The chief was also accused of circulating the victim’s nude photos on social media after she refused to accept his continuous abuse.”

The administrator received a 20-year prison sentence for rape and a further 20-year sentence for wrongful sharing of indecent or personal photos. 

The two sentences will run simultaneously, according to the ODPP.
