Wajir Ghost Voters: Haji, EACC Tussle Over Jurisdiction

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) through its CEO Twalib Mbarak has confirmed that it is in receipt of a complaint letter dated August 4, 2022 from the office of the directorate of public prosecutions (ODPP).

In the letter, DPP Haji is requesting the commission to investigate the alleged illegal transfer of Voters in Wajir County.

The Commission has so far according to the CEO responded to the DPP with its position on the said criminal investigation.

However, EACC has recused itself from any investigation in relation to the matter stating that the Commission lacks jurisdiction to investigate the alleged crime.

In response to the ODPP, EACC has directed the prosecution body to shift the matter to Electoral Commission.

“ Please note that the alleged Illegal registration and transfer of voters does not fall within the mandate of the EACC and it is hereby recommended that the IEBC deals with the matter in accordance with their mandate.” Reads the EACC’s response.
