Wajir Governor Impeached Over Gross Misconduct

Mohamed Abdi Mohamud, the Governor of Wajir, has been impeached.

This comes after an 11-member Special Committee of the Senate recommended that the Governor be impeached by the County Assembly for alleged serious constitutional violations.

Two Senators voted against the impeachment, and 25 voted to impeach the governor

The Special Senate Committee recommended impeachment after substantiating one of the 17 claims raised against the governor.

It was alleged that the governor violated the people of Wajir County’s right to health, which fulfills the threshold for an impeachable offense, according to a 144-page report.

In his defense, mr. Mohamud refuted claims that healthcare in Wajir had suffered under his leadership.

“The main impeachment is said to be gross violation of the constitution by not providing adequate health facilities…according to me…, we have provided enough…I could be impeached for violation of the constitution but it cannot be for gross misconduct,” the Governor told the Senate on Monday.
