The Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Dela Ward, Wajir County, Yussuf Ahmed Tolfiyow Hussein, who went missing in September 2024, was found alive on Saturday in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.
Hussein, who also serves as Wajir County Assembly’s Minority Leader, was reunited with his family after being escorted by unknown individuals. News of his return spread quickly, drawing large crowds of friends and neighbors to his residence to celebrate the moment. He was later taken to a hospital for medical check-ups.
The circumstances surrounding his abduction and return remain unclear. Nairobi police boss George Sedah stated that authorities would seek to speak with the MCA as investigations continue.
Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi expressed relief at the news, noting that Hussein’s disappearance had caused deep anxiety within the community. “Alhamdulillah! The people of Wajir have endured a painful period of prayers and unwavering hope for his safe return. His reunion brings immense relief and joy,” Abdullahi said.
Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Abdi Jehow and Eldas MP Adan Keynan also celebrated Hussein’s return, with Keynan, a relative of the MCA, sharing the news on social media.
Hussein was last seen on September 13, 2024, along Enterprise Road in Nairobi while heading home. Activist Bob Njagi, who was abducted in August, recently alleged that he had been held in the same location as the MCA.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja previously denied police involvement in Hussein’s disappearance.
Authorities have yet to establish the motive behind the abduction.
