Yussuf Ahmed, the Member of the Wajir County Assembly (MCA) for Della Ward who was reported missing following an alleged abduction in Nairobi on September 13, has been found in critical condition in a Uriri Constituency hospital.
His discovery comes after days of intense search efforts led by family, fellow leaders, and the police.
Ahmed was reportedly abducted on Friday night at approximately 9 PM on Enterprise Road in Makadara Constituency. Eyewitnesses described a group of unknown assailants using a Land Cruiser Prado in his abduction. The MCA’s family and colleagues, including Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan, had expressed deep concern over his disappearance, stating they received no information regarding any detainment or reasons for his abduction.
“I spoke with OCPD Uriri Police Station, John Odhiambo, who confirmed we have located our colleague, but he is currently unconscious,” Keynan revealed. Plans are underway to transfer Ahmed to a facility capable of providing more intensive care. “This development offers a glimmer of hope amid the anxiety surrounding his disappearance,” he added.
A statement released by the Wajir County Assembly condemned the abduction, asserting that no lawful justification existed for Ahmed’s detention. The assembly urged the police to either ensure his quick release or conduct an exhaustive investigation into the circumstances of his abduction.
In recent months, Kenya has witnessed a disturbing rise in forced abductions, particularly in the wake of anti-government protests, prompting calls from civil rights advocates for greater accountability and transparency from security agencies.
