Wambui Nyutu Slams NCIC Ouster, Terms Removal Politically Motivated

Former National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Vice Chairperson Wambui Nyutu has condemned her removal from office, calling the decision unlawful, politically driven, and a violation of her constitutional rights.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, Nyutu said she was blindsided by the commission’s announcement, having learned of her dismissal through the media following an NCIC press release on July 22.

“It is with utter shock and dismay that I have learnt through the media of the Commission’s repressive and unfortunate ‘unanimous’ decision to relieve me of my duties,” she said.

Nyutu accused the commission of failing to inform her of any allegations or proceedings, arguing that the decision contravenes legal and constitutional processes. She termed the move “uncivil” and an “infringement” on her rights, alleging it was politically instigated.

“We live in a democratic society with a progressive constitution that seeks to protect the rights of all its citizens. NCIC ought to be a unifying institution, not one used to settle political scores,” she said, while vowing to remain defiant: “I stand, a soul forged in fire, unshaken by the weight of injustice.”

However, NCIC defended its decision, citing Nyutu’s continued involvement in partisan political activities as a breach of her oath and commission regulations. Chairperson Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia stated that Nyutu’s conduct had become “untenable” and incompatible with the impartiality required of commissioners.

“The Commission unanimously resolved to relieve Ms. Nyutu of her role as Vice Chairperson with immediate effect,” Kobia announced, adding that a formal process to remove her as commissioner is now underway under Section 23 of the NCIC Act.

According to the commission, Nyutu had previously been cautioned over her political involvement after three special sittings between January and February 2025. Though she had initially apologized and pledged neutrality, NCIC claims she continued to engage in partisan activities, including attending political party meetings.

In a swift leadership change, the commission elected Dr. Dorcas Kedogo as the new Vice Chairperson, effective immediately.

NCIC has distanced itself from Nyutu’s political remarks, clarifying that her public statements do not reflect the commission’s official position.
