Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has intensified her criticism of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), openly vowing never to join the outfit.
In a strongly worded post shared on her social media platforms on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Wamuchomba launched a fresh attack on DCP, mockingly referring to it as the “maskio party” due to its symbol, a hand cupping an ear.
She accused members of the party of constantly hurling insults at leaders from the Mt Kenya region who are not politically aligned with them, calling such leaders “moles” and “betrayers”.
The outspoken legislator reflected on the aftermath of the 2022 elections, recalling how former President Uhuru Kenyatta warned Mt Kenya residents against electing William Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
According to Wamuchomba, many dismissed Uhuru’s cautionary words, telling him to finish his term and leave power.
However, she claimed that his warning has since materialised, pointing to high taxes, collapsing businesses, demolished homes, reduced tea bonuses, and the painful loss of young lives as a result of decisions made by the same leaders they trusted.
Wamuchomba, while reacting to Gachagua’s remarks recently, while referring to Kiambaa MP John Kawanjiku, whom he campaigned for in 2021, as a “Tugege”, said that instead of the former DP championing for the rights of Mt Kenya people, such as tea reforms, according to her, he is busy insulting children of single mothers, such as MP Kawanjiku.
“The Emotional Battalion is at it again, abusing everyone who is NOT associating with the Maskio party. Politics of emotion is self-destructive. In the year 2022, Uhuru told us not to follow THEM. We told HIM Maliza aende. He told us Mtaregrett; we told him hatukuli barabara… Maliza Uende, See now” Wamuchomba said
She lamented that speaking truth to power has earned her labels like “mole” and “betrayer” but insisted she will continue speaking uncomfortable truths.
The legislator declared she would never support leaders with “blood on their hands” and vowed not to join DCP blindly or under intimidation. She warned the party risks welcoming back the same divisive figures who once fuelled the “dynasty” rhetoric against Uhuru Kenyatta.
“I will not support a murderer, and I have been consistent, but I will not join the Maskio party blindly and through intimidation.” she added.
Wamuchomba, who had supported Gachagua up until his impeachment, now appears to be gravitating toward former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i. She stressed that unity in the Mt Kenya region, under the banner of “Wantam”, will only be achieved if leaders stop tearing each other apart.
She took a swipe at Gachagua’s recent attack on Embu Governor Cecil Mbarire, who went on to refer to her as ‘Karinda’, saying that insulting and demeaning women does not win elections; it only deepens divisions.
Her remarks come shortly after she criticised the DCP brigade for branding Matiang’i a “project” of former President Uhuru Kenyatta after he attended a recent Jubilee National Delegates Conference (NDC) alone.
