Duncan Odhiambo Otieno and Calvin Ochieng’ Odongo, who were arrested, outside the Muthaiga home of Jimi Wanjigi are set to know their fate in a court ruling later today.
The police allege that the suspects were found in possession of four hand grenades and other explosive materials inside a Toyota Prado.
Chief Magistrate Bernard Ochoi will determine whether to grant police a 14-day detention request for further interrogation of the suspects.
Defence lawyer John Andati has urged the court to release the two on bond, asserting their innocence and claiming they were mere workers for Wanjigi with no knowledge of the explosives.

“Only the police can disclose the source of the hand grenades,” he argued.
According to state prosecutors James Gachoka and Herbert Sonye, the suspects were apprehended after police trailed Wanjigi from the Central Business District during the Nane Nane demonstrations.
While the driver of the vehicle managed to escape, police found the grenades during a search conducted in the presence of the suspects outside Wanjigi’s residence.
Lead investigator Police Constable Andrew Njagi emphasized the necessity of the extended detention period to allow for a comprehensive investigation, including analysis of the explosives by bomb disposal experts.
The court has directed that Otieno and Odongo be held at Central Police Station until the ruling on August 12, 2024.
Meanwhile, Wanjigi has denied any knowledge of the weapons found in the vehicle, positioning himself distanced from the allegations against the two.
