A man has been arrested in connection to a night guard’s murder at a church in Tala Matungulu, Machakos county.

The suspect was nabbed following the death of Ferminus Makau, aged 50, brutal murder in the wee hours of Friday morning.

Confirming the incidence,Matungulu sub county police commander Peter Omondi said the deceased was attacked and killed while manning Dorcus City church where he worked as a watchman.

They were two watchmen guarding the church when three robbers struck and tied the other watchman using ropes. They then broke into the church’s office where they found the deceased and hit him on the head with a blunt object before stealing electronics, among other goods,” Omondi told the Star by phone on Friday.

The suspect was locked up at Tala police station where the incident had been reported.

The church’s presiding bishop John Nzomo said the thugs broke into the church and stole two cameras, two mixers, two iPhones and three amplifiers.

“I was called at 4.45 am and told that the office has been broken into and some items stolen. The person who called me didn’t know what had been stolen,” Nzomo said.

“When we got to the church, we found that they had broken into my office and surprisingly stole two cameras, two iPhones, three amplifiers and two mixers.”

Nzomo said they were informed about the watchman’s death at around 7.00 am when his body was discovered.

The body was moved to Kangundo Level 4 hospital mortuary in Machakos county.

Omondi said investigations into the incident were on top gear as they pursue more suspects.
