A court sitting in Machakos has thrown out an application challenging the validity of Wiper governor candidate Wavinya Ndeti’s degree certificate.
The application had been filed by two voters who sought to have the Machakos governor candidate locked out of the race, claiming she issued a fake degree certificate.
However, Justice George Odunga dismissed the application by the two voters ruling that they failed to prove that Wavinya’s degree certificate was fake.
According to Odunga, the petitioners also failed to demonstrate that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Dispute Resolutions Committee erred in upholding her candidacy.
In her defense, Ndeti stated that she has a valid bachelor’s degree and that the petitioners are intent on misleading the country.
The court cited a report by the court’s Deputy Registrar in its decision, which confirmed that Wavinya Ndeti had the required academic qualifications from South London University.
Wavinya faces stiff competition from former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita and former Machakos Senator and UDA chairman Johnson Muthama and the current Deputy Governor Francis Maliti.
