The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will no longer work with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of 2022 general election, the party’s secretary general, Edwin Sifuna has said.
Sifuna said on Saturday that the Raila Odinga- led party had already forged a new union with Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap party and urged the Kamba community to rally behind him.
Speaking at Tulia grounds in Kitui West constituency at a thanksgiving ceremony of newly elected MCA, Musee Mati, who won a recent by election on Maendeleo Chap Chap party ticket, Sifuna declared Mutua had demonstrated the requisite consistency required of a national leader.
“We came here as ODM to declare our undertaking to work with Governor Mutua, and that we will walk with him going forward. We will stand by him wherever and whenever he needs us,” said Sifuna.
Sifuna also thanked the three Ukambani leaders Mutua, Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Kitui’s Charity Ngilu for backing the ODM candidate, Imran Okoth who won the recent Kibra by election.
“In Kibra by election, we (ODM) were taking stock of our friends, and we identified them one by one. In Kenya today, we do not want people who are friends by the day and enemies by night,” he said in an apparent reference to Kalonzo, who supported the Ford-Kenya party candidate, Khamisi Butichi.
The Wiper party leader was Raila’s running mate in the 2017 general election under the NASA coalition.
And Mutua, who was installed a Kamba elder during the ceremony declared he will fearlessly lead the Kamba community to attain the presidency come 2022.
