The National Police Service (NPS) has announced a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the tragic killing of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were, confirming the arrest of four suspects linked to the crime.
According to a statement released by the NPS Headquarters, the suspects were apprehended following further analysis of earlier leads. The operation, conducted swiftly by officers, placed the individuals at the crime scene, with investigators also recovering crucial evidence tying them directly to the fatal shooting.
Among those arrested are members of a notorious organised criminal gang known as “Mjahidin,” which has been associated with a string of violent robberies in Nairobi’s Eastlands area. Authorities believe the group may have played a central role in the planning and execution of the attack.
The police have urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid speculation as the investigation proceeds. “We are committed to conducting a thorough and impartial probe, and bringing all responsible individuals to justice,” the statement read.
The NPS also cautioned against public commentary that could jeopardize the ongoing investigation, emphasizing the need for cooperation and discretion.
Citizens with any relevant information are encouraged to contact their nearest police station or use the NPS toll-free lines: 999, 112, or #FichuaKwaDCI (0800 722 203).
The police have reiterated their commitment to delivering justice for Hon. Were’s family and keeping the public informed as developments unfold.
