Wetang’ula claims President Ruto will secure a decisive victory in 2027

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, has stepped up to defend President William Ruto’s 2027 election ambition while predicting a decisive win.

Taking to his official X account on Friday, January 30, 2026, Wetang’ula declared that Ruto’s decisive victory in the 2027 General Election is backed by the implementation of major projects under his regime.

While expressing his confidence in Ruto, he listed select projects that he says leave a strong legacy for President Ruto.

“I expressed confidence that President Ruto will win decisively in 2027 and leave a strong legacy, backed by major projects such as a Level Six hospital in Bungoma, an airstrip in Webuye, and the planned dualling of the Mombasa–Nairobi–Malaba highway,” Wetang’ula said.

On the other hand, Wetang’ula has pleaded with North Rift residents, looping in former supporters of the late ODM leader Raila Odinga, to rally behind Ruto, citing the need for unity under the broad-based government.

“I called on North Rift residents, including former supporters of the late ODM leader Raila Odinga, to rally behind the President, citing the need for unity under the broad-based government,” Wetang’ula stated.

“I urged all Kenyans to continue supporting and praying for the Kenya Kwanza administration and particularly President Ruto seeks to unite the country,” Wetang’ula pleaded.

Wetang’ula’s remarks came just days after President William Ruto had declared that he is targeting a decisive victory in the 2027 General Election, saying he wants to win by a margin of between two and three million votes through a possible coalition with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Speaking on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the State House, Nairobi, during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Governing Council meeting, Ruto said the ruling party is keen on broadening its political base to unite the country and consolidate gains made under the broad-based government.

At the time, Ruto said the broad-based government arrangement with ODM has worked, praising key leaders for their performance in government.

“In the coming election, we want to win by a margin of between 2 and 3 million so that we unite the country and walk together. In the last election, we won by a margin of 200,000. There’s justification for us to consolidate the country into one,” Ruto said.

“This broad-based government has worked. Treasury CS John Mbadi and the others have done a good job.”

Ruto further revealed that discussions are ongoing with ODM on the possibility of forming a coalition ahead of the next election.
